How to apply chrome leather to dancing shoes
Please define “typical work day”. This isn’t a typical one, but there’s a question of where to draw the line.
Grabbing original images from Flash-based Lightroom galleries
0 Comments Published by Rich December 31st, 2007 in technology, webdev, photography, security.I can see how the Flash-based photo gallery option in Lightroom is so popular. It’s dead easy to create one, and since the Flash interface hides original filenames, it makes it more difficult for people to steal original image files.
I was interested in another person’s photos because I wanted to view the EXIF data. […]
Testing out Apple’s new browser release: Safari 3 beta for Windows
0 Comments Published by Rich June 12th, 2007 in Uncategorized.Apple just announced Safari for Windows yesterday, and it has probably gotten a number of downloads since being posted to Slashdot. I decided to give it a try. I found that there are some cool things, such as the fact that it passes the Acid2 test. However, some people have already claimed […]
Nice RFC - defining a “null” encryption algorithm
0 Comments Published by Rich May 17th, 2007 in technology, academia. This RFC defines a NULL encryption algorithm for use in the IPsec ESP protocol. Since there’s not a lot of math involved, the writers got a little creative:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2410.html
The NULL encryption algorithm combines many of the best features of both block and stream ciphers, while still not requiring the transmission of an IV or analogous […]

0 Comments Published by Rich May 14th, 2007 in technology, linux, academia.I was reading this post on Slashdot about TiVO’s recently filed patent application on a “password you can’t hack“. I was just thinking… isn’t this basically a zero knowledge proof?
“Eventually, systems were devised that require the host to prove that it knows the password without actually revealing the password, thus allowing the host to […]
OK, that doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as “Happy New Year”.
I’m hanging out in the office at RSA just waiting for people to call in. No one yet, hooray. I guess we’ll see if any doomsday predictions come true or not.

Chillin’ with figure skaters on the Cape
0 Comments Published by Rich December 11th, 2006 in travel, Debbie, photography. This weekend was the Cape Cod Synchronized Skating Classic, where a lot of synchro teams gathered to compete. Esprit De Corps participated in exhibitions as there were no other competing adult and masters teams there. I took video for them — they’re a very nice crowd of girls, however pretty insane (that explains […]
Second Life - it’s all been done before… sort of
0 Comments Published by Rich November 28th, 2006 in technology.I did some Internet news reading recently and stumbled upon a series of articles and columns about the game Second Life. I thought, “another graphical MMORPG / ‘Sims’ clone that’s getting hype.” Well, in some ways I still think so, though this Wired column about copyright issues in the game caught my interest.
From […]
Finally figured out proxy support for Subclipse
0 Comments Published by Rich November 27th, 2006 in technology, free stuff.Silly me… the answer was right in front of me but I was mucking with the registry settings when I didn’t have to. Now maybe I can try to figure out why gaim doesn’t properly operate through our proxy, but SIM-IM client does (and hopefully “fix” it).
